Drawing (Week 7-8)

The 7th week we faced a new kind of perspective of drawing. We had to draw a hand. It was not anymore about drawing straight lines that were parallel to each other, but we had to study all the small wrinkles and tiny shades that lay on our hand. At first I didn't know how to get started, I kept on erasing and redrawing every single line, until I finally finished my work that took me about 2-3 hours. If my drawing looks crooked, that can only be because my fingers are crooked as well. :) The following week we drew a portrait of one of our classmates. So I picked Lera who, seemed to be a good model to draw. I started out pretty well, although some difficulties occurred during the details of the mouth and eyes. Everything looked good, until the point when our teacher announced that we can color the portrait, because then I got super excited that I could paint this picture, and began to mix colors very carefully. As time passed quickly, I realized almost everybody has left the drawing room, and almost started to panic, that I am not going to finish. So it was due to this fact that eventually I gained a rather pinkish color for the skin. I wasn't that satisfied with this picture, but this wasn't my last chance of proving my painting skills, so I didn't worry about it that much.

Photography (Week 6)

This was a very special day, which we have been waiting for. From the moment Mr. Godsave has announced that we are going to Szabadság square to take photos, I knew it was going to be great fun! Although I was afraid that it will be cancelled because of the rain, but Mr. Godsave has seen opportunities in the situation and not reasons for cancelling the event. This was a point when I thought how wonderful is it that art and creativity just doesn't know any boundaries. Unfortunately not too many trees have changed color, but we could still take some good rain photos and even umbrella pictures and portraits. Well at first my camera was clicking all the time, trying to catch every exciting and intresting moment, then somehow my roles concerning the camera have turned upside and down. From the handler of the camera, I shifted to the subject of the gadget. Thus I had in front of and the behind the camera experience. My classmates took pictures of me sitting on the bench, jumping with the umbrella, standing on the bridge and so on. They turned out pretty good, even though I was the model and this model was rather cold and tired. :)

Drawing (Week 4-5-6)

In these week's classes we continued to discover shapes and shades of boxes, and depicting them on the drawing sheet. But on each week we added some kind of theme to it. The 4th week Mr. Herman placed a drapery on top of the boxes which made it more difficult to see and draw the boxes. It wasn't easy to figure out where to put darker and lighter shades, at least the darkest places of my drawing was never dark or black enough in my teacher's eyes. On the 5th and 6th week we did almost the same tasks, we had to capture a still life, first in black and white then in color. The 6th week task, the still life in color, seemed much more fun to me since I love to paint, and this was our first opportunity to grab a paintbrush and palette of watercolor. Even though I never paint realistic images it was a great experience to explore realistic representation with paint.

Photography (Week 4-5)

Late September, and early October reminds me of this exciting and picturesque atmosphere of fall, which gives such pleasant feelings, and awakens the desire of advanture. It is so easy to enjoy these moments...I think this is what fall is about...MOMENTS. It is only one moment when a leaf falls down, and a nother when you jump on it to hear that crunchy, but somehow niceley sounding noise.
This is what I learned from the last few classes. The best pictures only last for a moment in real life, but if you press that little button on your camera, this handful of technology will capture that one single moment and will turn it into an immortal piece of art.
The fourth week we checked out a webpage : http://www.digitaljournalist.org/issue0309/lm01.html
It was about photographs that have changed the world. The special thing about these pictures is that every one of them has its own unique story, full of emotions that you can almost grab just by looking at them. But there were also some images that personally just didn't tell me any kind of stories.
In the end of the lesson we got homework! We had to take photos with the title of contrast and context. Well I actually missunderstood the task, because I took pictures that had contrasting colors, while Mr. Godsave meant contrast in the meanings or symbols. The shoe, and my dog Zoey:
I also had to take a picture of a statue, so I took a picture of a frog sitting on a pot, which is probably smaller than 3 centimeters all together. I guess I managed to take a good macro picture of it since people were suprised when I told them how little the frog and the pot is in real life. The fifth week - which is the present - we watched some videos, that showed us some "magic tricks" of how to use photoshop, and change a picture into something completely different. The video was pretty long, and very precise by showing the whole procedure, which was a bit tiring to watch...can't imagin doing the same thing with a picture... but who knows maybe one day I will be doing twice as much work on a single photo. :) I think, I'd rather take a good picture, and do less correcting on it.
Next week we will be going to Szabadság square to capture some moments of fall, maybe some urban stuff too, so I hope this will give me opportunity to make some intresting photographs! :)
